Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic draws 100-plus teams to Lewisburg
More than 100 programs and clubs packed Lewisburg for Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic, sending a weekend wave of hotel, restaurant and parking demand into town.

More than 100 collegiate programs and clubs turned Lewisburg into a three-day track-and-field destination, creating a weekend rush that spilled beyond Bucknell’s campus and into Union County’s hotels, restaurants and parking lots.
Bucknell’s 2025-26 home-meet schedule listed the Bison Outdoor Classic for Saturday, April 11 through Monday, April 13 at Bucknell University, with field and track sessions spread across the three days and the multi-events closing the meet on Monday. The event was also streamed on FloTrack, giving a meet rooted in Lewisburg a wider regional and national audience.
The scale helps explain why the Classic has become one of the East’s marquee collegiate meets. Bucknell said more than 160 collegiate programs and clubs were expected in Lewisburg for the 2025 women’s preview, and more than 130 were expected in 2024. That kind of turnout brings hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials and support staff into a borough where Bucknell is one of the largest institutional anchors, putting weekend pressure on lodging near campus, meal service in town and traffic flow on roads leading in and out of the university.
For local businesses, the meet is one of the clearest spring boosts on the calendar. Hotels in and around Lewisburg tend to absorb the first wave of visitors, while restaurants, coffee shops and takeout spots see the next one as teams cycle between competition windows. Parking around Bucknell and throughout the borough also becomes part of the event’s rhythm, especially when multiple sessions are running across Saturday and Sunday and the final multi-event competition extends the schedule into Monday.
The Classic also carried a ceremonial side for the Bucknell program. The university scheduled its Spiked Shoe Senior Day ceremony for 6 p.m. Saturday, and a 2026 recap said 14 student-athletes were honored. Bucknell’s 2025 coverage described the meet as one of the biggest Bison Outdoor Classics ever, and a day-one recap noted an alumni reception that brought former student-athletes back to campus. By the time the final multi-events wrapped Monday, the weekend had served as both a competitive showcase and a reminder of how Bucknell’s athletics calendar helps shape Lewisburg’s local economy.
