House Fire Guts Weikert Road Home, Multiple Volunteer Companies Respond

A fire that broke out around 1:30 p.m. on March 5 gutted a home in the 5800 block of Weikert Road, drawing a second-alarm response from more than a dozen volunteer fire units across Union and Centre counties. No injuries were reported.

The Union County West End Fire Company was the first to arrive on scene, and Chief 703 called for a second alarm shortly after. What followed was one of the larger multi-company responses the rural Weikert area has seen, with dispatch logs showing Chiefs 701, 703, 302, 303, and 304 on scene alongside Engines 7, 3, 3-2, 3-3, 4-2, and Centre County Engine 18. Tankers 7, 50, and 110 handled water supply, while Rescue 50 and Rescue 18, Utility 3, and Ambulance 27 also responded. EMS crews from Companies 1-2 were staged at the scene.

Fire officials confirmed the home was gutted. Crews worked for approximately two hours before returning to service, a timeline that reflects both the intensity of the fire and the logistical challenge of operating in a part of Union County where tanker shuttles are essential to sustained firefighting operations.

The afternoon did not end there for Company 7. After clearing the Weikert Road scene, the company was dispatched again to a transformer fire in the area, which Chief 703 and Brush 7 handled.

The cause of the fire has not been reported, and no information has been released regarding the property owner or whether any occupants were displaced. Those details, along with an official damage estimate, remain outstanding as the incident moves toward a formal fire investigation report.
