Lewisburg Arts Festival draws record demand, returns to Market Street April 25
With nearly twice as many vendor applications as slots, Lewisburg's Arts Festival has become a downtown test of space, crowds and local spending.

Lewisburg’s Arts Festival returned to Market Street on Saturday with a problem many towns would welcome: nearly twice as many vendors wanted in as the Lewisburg Arts Council could fit. That surge has turned the event into more than a spring outing. It is now a major test of how Lewisburg manages crowds, downtown business traffic and the future size of one of Union County’s signature traditions.
The 2026 festival ran from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and remained free and open to the public along six full blocks of Market Street. The Arts Council said the show featured more than 100 artists and artisanal food booths, while tourism listings described it as the region’s premier juried artist show. In practical terms, that means a single day of tents, food courts, live entertainment and steady foot traffic through the heart of Downtown Lewisburg.
What makes the event notable locally is not just its scale, but how long it has been building. The Arts Council said the festival began more than 50 years ago in a small bank parking lot and has since expanded to cover most of Market Street. Despite rain last year, the council said the festival drew more than 10,000 visitors to downtown Lewisburg, a number that helps explain why downtown restaurants, shops and nearby businesses now plan around it.
Behind the scenes, the festival still depends on volunteer labor. The Arts Council says it is run by 100% volunteers, and a Bucknellian report said this year’s volunteer corps numbered about 100 people, with planning beginning in October and intensifying after New Year’s. The same report said organizers used four separate food court areas to manage crowd flow and food selection, a reminder that growth brings logistical choices as much as celebration.
The festival’s expansion has also changed how visitors move through town. Visit PA said accessible parking was available behind the post office on South Third Street, with shuttle access from there and bike racks throughout the festival area. With thousands of people converging on Market Street and more vendors applying than can be accepted, Lewisburg’s Arts Festival now reflects the borough’s broader challenge: keeping a beloved community event welcoming, walkable and sustainable as its popularity keeps rising.
