Sunbury Woman Suffers Serious Injuries in Monroe Township Multi-Vehicle Crash
Sandy L. Mallatratt, 58, was rushed to Geisinger Medical Center after her RAV4 triggered a three-car pileup on North Susquehanna Trail Tuesday without a seat belt.

Sandy L. Mallatratt, 58, of Sunbury was transported to Geisinger Medical Center by ambulance Tuesday afternoon after her 2015 Toyota RAV4 rear-ended a Chevrolet Suburban in a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash on North Susquehanna Trail just past the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Monroe Township, Pennsylvania State Police at Selinsgrove said. She sustained suspected serious injuries.
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. as Mallatratt was traveling north in the left lane of North Susquehanna Trail, just past the intersection of Susquehanna Valley Mall Drive. Her RAV4 struck the rear bumper of a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, which was then pushed into the rear bumper of a 2022 Chevrolet Blazer ahead of it, according to police. The collision closed a busy stretch of the roadway while emergency crews responded.
Police determined Mallatratt was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. She was cited for following too closely, careless driving, and not using seat belts.
No injuries were reported for the drivers or occupants of the Suburban or the Blazer. The conditions of those involved in the other two vehicles were not released.
North Susquehanna Trail near the Susquehanna Valley Mall is one of Monroe Township's busiest commercial corridors, regularly carrying heavy traffic between the mall, adjacent retail strips, and U.S. Route 11. The stretch where the crash occurred sits just beyond the mall's main access point, an area where traffic frequently queues during afternoon hours.
