When calls fail there, the impact can be immediate: missed bookings, slower service and confusion for military families, temporary-duty visitors and others trying to secure a room on short notice.

Laughlin Manor is the 24-hour arrival point for Laughlin AFB, and base lodging sources say reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance. MilitaryINSTALLATIONS lists Visiting Quarters, Temporary Lodging Facilities and Distinguished Visitor suites among the options at Laughlin, and says travelers can call 830-298-5731 for information, availability and rates. Department of Defense lodging also allows reservations online, giving guests another route while the phone system is down.

The outage matters because Laughlin Air Force Base is not a small stopover. The installation is home to the 47th Flying Training Wing and is described by base sources as the Air Force’s largest pilot-producing base. Roughly 400 new military pilots earn their silver wings there each year after a 52-week undergraduate pilot training course, making dependable lodging part of the base’s daily operating rhythm.

For service members with orders, base temporary lodging can be used for up to 30 days, which makes accurate phone access especially important when arrivals change or flights are delayed. A phone failure at Laughlin Manor can mean more manual tracking for staff, more repeat calls from guests and more pressure on the few local lodging options near Del Rio and the U.S./Mexico border.

Laughlin Manor has also been one of the better-known lodging points in the area, with housing sources saying it has won the Small Base Innkeeper Award three times in the last 10 years. Even so, the notice did not say how long the phone trouble had lasted, how many reservations may have been affected or whether any backup compensation plan was in place for guests caught by the outage.

For now, the practical advice is simple: keep trying the backup numbers and use the online reservation option if phone service remains unreliable. In a base community where rooms and arrival times often move quickly, even a brief phone outage can disrupt the first step of a trip.
