Overturned Ambulance Removed From Ditch on Creedmoor Road, Two Medics Hospitalized

A private ambulance overturned into a ditch along Creedmoor Road north of I-540 around 3 a.m. Thursday, shutting down lanes during the early-morning hours and sending emergency crews scrambling to haul the vehicle out before traffic could resume.

The crash happened March 19 in Wake County, and the cause remains under investigation. What is clear is that two people were inside the ambulance at the time, and the vehicle was not transporting a patient when it left the roadway.

What is less clear is what happened to those two occupants afterward. The State Highway Patrol told WRAL that no one was transported for treatment. ABC11, citing emergency officials, reported that two medics inside the ambulance were taken to a hospital for evaluation, though no additional details about their condition were immediately released. The two accounts have not been reconciled in any official public statement.

Crews worked through the early morning to remove the overturned ambulance from the ditch and clear all lanes before reopening Creedmoor Road. WRAL's Breaking News Tracker captured video of crews on scene during the removal operation.

No ambulance company was identified by name in initial reports, though ABC11 specified the vehicle was a privately operated ambulance. An incident report number and the identities of the two occupants have not been made public.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
