Wake County Public Health closes Feb. 16-20 to move to 200 Swinburne
Wake County Public Health will be closed to the public Feb. 16–20 for a location move; limited prescription pickup remains and services resume Feb. 23 at 7:30 a.m.

Wake County Public Health will close to the public for one week while staff move into a new 154,000-square-foot Public Health Center at 200 Swinburne St., officials said. The closure runs Feb. 16–20, with core services resuming at the new site Monday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 a.m.
Wake County said the last day of operations at the current center, 10 Sunnybrook Road, was Friday, Feb. 13. “Wake County Public Health will be closed to the public for all services except prescription pickup from Feb. 16 to 20, as staff make the final move to their new location on Swinburne Street,” the county posted. That means in-person clinics for immunizations, STD testing, dental care and children’s health services will be suspended during the move; sick visits and walk-in services will also be unavailable.
Prescription pickup will continue at the Sunnybrook site during most of the transition. “The Wake County Public Health pharmacy will be open for prescription pickup only Monday - Thursday at the current Public Health Center located at 10 Sunnybrook Road, Raleigh. The pharmacy will be closed on Friday, Feb. 20,” the county said. Patients who depend on the Public Health pharmacy should plan to retrieve medications Feb. 16–19 or contact the health department for guidance before the temporary pause on Feb. 20.
To reduce disruption for families and patients, Wake County added extra appointment slots at regional center clinics. “To help maintain access, Public Health added additional appointments at regional center clinics to help accommodate patients,” the county wrote. Residents who had appointments at Sunnybrook were not scheduled there during the move; people with urgent needs should contact their regional clinic or the health department for alternatives.
The new center at 200 Swinburne St., Raleigh 27610, is located “just about two minutes from our current Sunnybrook location and directly across from the Wake County Swinburne Building,” the county noted, and the main number for the public health center is 919-250-1120. Wake County described the facility as “a cutting-edge facility designed to enhance public health services and support the well-being of our community.”
For Wake County residents, the short closure is a disruption to routine services that many families rely on, including childhood vaccinations and STD testing. If you have a scheduled visit, prescription, or urgent need this week, confirm arrangements with the health department or your regional clinic, pick up needed medications by Feb. 19 if possible, and plan visits to the new center starting Feb. 23 at 7:30 a.m. The move aims to centralize services in a larger, modern facility that county officials say will improve capacity and access for Wake County residents.
