Yuma Fire Department Extinguishes Backyard Fire on South 12th Avenue
Smoke in the vents tipped off firefighters to a hidden attic fire at a South 12th Avenue home Tuesday, where Yuma crews contained damage to one room.

Smoke and flames rising from the backyard of a single-story home near South 12th Avenue and West 12th Street drew Yuma Fire Department crews to the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17.
Arriving crews immediately deployed hose lines and launched what YFD described as an "aggressive fire attack," bringing the backyard blaze under control. But the fire had not finished its work. While operating outside, firefighters noticed smoke pushing through the home's interior vents, a warning sign that prompted a search inside the single-family structure for any fire extension.
The search paid off. Crews located a fire in the attic and extinguished it immediately. "Firefighters were able to contain the damage to one room, preventing further spread throughout the home," YFD stated.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
