Adani Group executives say the conglomerate may invest up to $5 billion in Alphabet and Google’s planned artificial intelligence data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The potential AdaniConneX stake would join a larger Google commitment announced in October to build multibillion dollar AI data centre capacity in southern India.

Reuters reports the Visakhapatnam campus will begin with a one gigawatt power capacity to support high density compute needs that underpin modern AI models. AdaniConneX is a joint venture between Adani Enterprises and EdgeConneX. Industry leaders and finance officials are watching closely as global technology firms rapidly expand data centre footprints to meet surging demand for AI compute.

Adani’s chief financial officer has said that many parties are interested in partnerships as projects scale to gigawatt class operations, a comment that underscores growing private sector financing of AI infrastructure in India. The emerging model pools industrial conglomerates, specialized data centre operators and multinational cloud companies, shifting much of the capital burden away from public budgets.

The scale of planned facilities raises questions beyond corporate finance. Large data centres require significant and reliable electricity and water supplies, and they can alter local land use patterns.
