Adani’s chief financial officer has said that many parties are interested in partnerships as projects scale to gigawatt class operations, a comment that underscores growing private sector financing of AI infrastructure in India. The emerging model pools industrial conglomerates, specialized data centre operators and multinational cloud companies, shifting much of the capital burden away from public budgets.
The scale of planned facilities raises questions beyond corporate finance. Large data centres require significant and reliable electricity and water supplies, and they can alter local land use patterns. The expansion of AI infrastructure also presents potential public benefits if governance frameworks and policies channel investment toward local needs.
