Ariadne’s Book of Legends Kickstarter Adds 5e Rules Beyond 20th Level

Ariadne’s Book of Legends is a Kickstarter from Ariadne’s Codex of Strings, founded by Marcelo Fosco, that adds five legendary levels to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition play, introduces legendary action points to player characters, and had raised $200,000 by early March. The campaign launched in February 2026, remained active into March, and Wargamer reports backers can pledge until March 19, 2026; the Kickstarter page carries the strapline: “Rise above all limits, fight god-like.”

Fosco began building the material after his own table reached 20th level, inventing Epic Boons and monsters with Challenge Rating 30 for earlier Ariadne’s Codex of Strings books; positive response to those homebrew rules prompted the February Kickstarter for Book of Legends. Polygon reports Fosco’s work and frames the new project as a deliberate move to let characters continue adventuring past D&D’s traditional level cap.

Mechanically, the book “grants access to the legendary action points used by the most powerful monsters,” a system Polygon says forces players to decide between unleashing massive offensive abilities or spending points to survive devastating attacks. The campaign also debuts a suite of Mythical Techniques targeted at martial classes: examples given include leaping across a battlefield, punching through a tower, and a strike that can push the soul out of a character, presented as a counterpart to spells like Maze. Polygon cites a design problem the book aims to solve—a wizard casting Forcecage that only Disintegrate can destroy—and positions Mythical Techniques as tools to close the spellcaster-versus-martial gap.

Wargamer highlights two new player options that appear in the Kickstarter preview. The Shaper is described as a half-caster “fueled by pure willpower,” with Wargamer evoking Gurren Lagann-scale reality-bending power in its flavor text. The Starblade is presented as “a twist on the magical martial arts,” “totally bereft of spells,” where “every attack is packed with cosmic might.” Wargamer also reports the project contains “over 350 pages of new content” in the material shown so far.

Art and community previews have circulated alongside the campaign. Wargamer describes illustrations of epic adventurers fighting a wormlike monster with a giant maw ringed by many arms and a party attacking skeletal foes in an arcane laboratory; multiple posts in r/DnDHomebrew titled “ARIADNE'S BOOK OF LEGENDS - D&D beyond 20th level! Some of the pages we've been working on for this upcoming 5e expansion...” indicate sample pages have been shared with the homebrew community.

Coverage has been bullish but cautious about lethality and scope. Wargamer warns that “even the weakest enemies of this book have the potential to wipe the floor with your party,” and their writer Gab Hernandez adds, “I'm honestly impressed by just how much the Kickstarter revealed, and yet there's hundreds of pages more to come. I've always said that D&D 5e is a system that desperately needs spice. Ariadne's Book of Legends is an expansion that lets players do some impossibly fun things, and I can't wait to see more.” With $200,000 raised and a March 19, 2026 deadline on the Kickstarter, Ariadne’s Book of Legends has set its sights on reshaping high-level 5e play while promising still more content as the campaign closes.
