FBI and Portland Police Double Reward to $25,000 in Miguel Oliveras Case After 20 Years
Myrna Gonzalez hasn't heard from her son in nearly 20 years. Now the FBI is offering $25,000 for answers.

Security footage from a Portland nightclub captured the last known image of Miguel Oliveras: the 24-year-old from Hyde Park, Massachusetts, walking out the door around 1 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2006, alongside an unidentified man. Nearly two decades later, no one has seen or heard from him since.
Portland police and FBI investigators more than doubled the reward for information about Oliveras, increasing it from $10,000 to $25,000 for any tip that leads to his location or his remains. The FBI's Southern Maine Gang Task Force and the Portland Police Department, who have been jointly investigating the case, announced the increase Thursday.
Oliveras was last seen around 1 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2006, at the Platinum Plus Club on Riverside Street in Portland, now known as Rick's Cabaret. He was reportedly at the club to visit his ex-girlfriend, who was an employee of the establishment. He was wearing a grey camouflage long-sleeve shirt with a white T-shirt over it, green cargo shorts, and white sneakers. At the time he went missing, he was 24 years old, approximately 5'11" tall, and weighed approximately 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He had tattoos on his neck, back, shoulder, and hand.
His mother, Myrna Gonzalez, has been waiting for answers ever since. "It'll be 20 years this year that my son disappeared and not knowing his whereabouts all these years is killing me," she said in a statement. "I need anyone with information to please come forward. Please, I need my closure."
Ted E. Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI's Boston Division, said in a statement: "We are increasing our reward for information that leads us to Miguel Oliveras or helps us recover his remains. We're talking about a son who never came home, and a mother who has been living every day in the painful space between hope and heartbreak." "Someone out there knows something, and even the smallest detail could make a difference. Miguel's mom Myrna deserves answers, and she deserves the chance to lay her son to rest, to grieve, and to begin to heal. We're urging anyone with information on Miguel's whereabouts to contact us."

Authorities describe the disappearance as suspicious and say they have not received any reports of sightings since then. The $10,000 reward had first been offered a year ago. The decision to more than double it reflects the agencies' continued push to break open a case that has produced no confirmed leads in nearly two decades.
"We have not closed the door on this case and continue to actively investigate all available leads," Portland Police Chief Mark Dubois said. "We are hopeful that new information will emerge that helps bring resolution for the family and accountability for those responsible."
Anyone with information can call Portland police at 207-874-8584 or, to leave an anonymous tip, at 207-874-8575. Tips can also be texted by sending the keyword "PPDME" and a message to 847411. The FBI can be reached at 800-225-5324, or tips can be submitted online at tips.fbi.gov. Authorities are also asking the public to share Oliveras' missing person poster, which is available through the Portland Police Department and FBI Boston.
