Fieldwork Brewing is opening an outdoor beer garden today at China Basin Park, with an indoor taproom planned this summer at Mission Rock in the building that houses Visa's global headquarters and Via Aurelia restaurant. The China Basin location seats 100, operates from noon to 5 p.m. on opening day, and will be open noon to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The beer garden uses a shipping container for beer service and includes a coffee bar, but offers no indoor customer space.

The China Basin beer garden overlooks McCovey Cove and Oracle Park, and is expected to draw crowds on San Francisco Giants game days. The Giants, who are part owners of the Mission Rock project, are planning “activations,” such as tailgate parties, in the beer garden. These new venues mark Fieldwork's first entries into San Francisco and bring the brewery's Northern California total to 11 locations. The company opened its most recent taproom in Santa Rosa in November.

Fieldwork was founded in Berkeley in 2014 and built an early reputation for frequent new releases and a steady stream of experimental beers. It also maintains several year round offerings, including a popular nonalcoholic beer that features prominently at venues such as San Jose's SAP Center. Despite a national craft beer volume decline of 5 percent in 2025, Fieldwork says its business has grown each year and credits its multiple taproom approach for better margins than wide distribution. “We’re grateful that we haven’t had the headwinds that others have had,” said Fieldwork owner Barry Braden.

For local drinkers the practical value is immediate. China Basin Park sits in a fast growing neighborhood populated by tech and finance firms such as OpenAI, Nvidia, Coinbase and Visa, providing a nearby after work and event destination. The outdoor layout and proximity to Oracle Park make it an easy stop before and after games. Visit fieldworkbrewing.com for more details, capacity updates and summer taproom opening information at Mission Rock, where fans and neighbors will gain an indoor place to gather later in 2026.
