Four killed, including baby, after car crashes into trees in Derby

Four people, including a baby girl, died after a car crashed into trees on the A38 near Derby, and police arrested the driver on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A 36-year-old man and two women, aged 18 and 30, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the baby girl was taken to hospital and died a short time later.

Emergency services were called to the late-night collision on a stretch of road between the A50 and Derby. One account described the vehicle as a Hyundai that left the road and struck trees.

The driver, a 33-year-old man, was arrested after the crash. Police have not given further details about the circumstances of the collision beyond the arrest and the deaths confirmed at the scene and in hospital.

The crash has left a stretch of the A38 at the centre of a fatal collision investigation involving four victims from the same incident. Police said the focus remained on the circumstances that led the car to hit the trees, after the vehicle came to rest off the carriageway near Derby.
