Huntsville-shot Turns Out, It’s the Apocalypse… we think? wraps, enters post-production
Principal photography for Turns Out, It’s the Apocalypse… we think? wrapped in Huntsville; the Evening Squire feature is now in post-production and aims for completion later this year.

Principal photography has wrapped on the independent feature "Turns Out, It’s the Apocalypse… we think?" and the production, shot entirely in Huntsville, has moved into post-production, Evening Squire Productions and local reports confirm. Mike Hayhurst directed the shoot while Natalie Lynch and Tara Jayn co-wrote the screenplay, co-star as lifelong best friends, and serve as executive producers on the project. Yahoo billed the film as "set for completion later this year."
The film's logline lays out its central conflict plainly: "Two lifelong best friends hide out in a bunker during a possible apocalypse, then emerge to a world that’s unsettlingly empty. With no answers and nowhere to go, survival becomes less about the end of the world and more about surviving each other." Tone comparisons in publicity materials describe the movie as The Odd Couple meets Night of the Comet meets Shaun of the Dead meets Leave the World Behind, a blend of sharp comedy, eerie tension, and an emotionally grounded look at friendship under pressure.
Local media and public radio captured the filmmakers during promotion and outreach. WLRH's Arts Underground recorded an interview with director Mike Hayhurst and stars Natalie Lynch and Tara Jayn on February 6, 2026, and aired the episode February 20, 2026; program host and director Katy Ganaway is listed on the Arts Underground page. Yahoo also referenced video segments from the Day to Day feature that include Hayhurst, Lynch, and Jayn, and noted a "Reddit with Friends" segment featuring Lynch and Jayn. The screenplay earned early recognition on the festival circuit and in competitions before cameras rolled. The project won Best Comedy Screenplay at the Cordillera International Film Festival, reached the second round at the Austin Film Festival, and placed as a finalist at PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, Broad Humor Film Festival, Rocket City Film Festival, Emerging Screenwriters, and Desertscape Film Festival, according to the production's publicity.

WHNT framed the shoot as part of growing local film activity in North Alabama, and WLRH's program copy leaned into Huntsville-specific color: "Cozy bunkers… a dearly departed cat… professional actors … who are also hamsters?" and described the setting as an end-times story located in an "everywhere town" - in Huntsville, Alabama. WLRH's Arts Underground page lists the station at the UAH Campus, 301 Sparkman Drive, Huntsville, AL 35899, and provides a contact phone number, (256) 895-9574, for listeners seeking the episode.
With principal photography complete in Huntsville and post-production underway under Evening Squire Productions, the film's next milestones will be editing, scoring, and festival submission; the team has publicly signaled a completion target of later this year and will continue sharing behind-the-scenes content and scheduling updates on @turnsoutmovie.
