Leaks Suggest Infinity Ward Developing Modern Warfare 4 for 2026; Zombies Denied
GameSpot’s Feb 27 roundup says Infinity Ward is developing the 2026 Call of Duty entry widely tipped as Modern Warfare 4; Call of Duty’s official account denied a standalone Zombies leak.

GameSpot’s Feb 27, 2026 roundup compiles “the current public leaks, supply-chain hints and industry chatter” and frames the 2026 Call of Duty entry as being developed by Infinity Ward and “widely tipped by insiders as ‘Modern Warfare 4.’” The piece gathers claims from what it calls reliable leakers and industry observers, making Infinity Ward the central studio named across multiple late-February reports.
GameRant expanded on the rumored design and platforms, writing that “Call of Duty will be returning to the Modern Warfare series in 2026, with Infinity Ward rumored to be working on Modern Warfare 4.” GameRant added that the new game is “said to boast similar multiplayer gameplay to 2022's Modern Warfare 2” and that the title is “rumored to be dropping the PS4 and Xbox One and solely launching on PC and newer consoles.” GameRant also noted Call of Duty studios have “multiple new games in the works.”
The standalone Zombies chatter generated its own timeline. MrDalekJD posted a Feb 22, 2026 video titled “# BREAKING: NEW STANDALONE COD ZOMBIES GAME LEAKED...” with 76,437 views and 5,131 likes on a channel listing 2,860,000 subscribers; the video description cites leaker @TheGhostOfHope and says developers including Raven Software “in the past” explored a fully fledged live-service or standalone version of Zombies. Two days later NoobFeed’s Sabi reported that “Call of Duty has officially made a statement quashing recent rumors about a potential standalone Call of Duty: Zombies game,” and characterized the publisher’s reply as “very unusual.”
TweakTown captured the publisher’s public pushback in one line from the Call of Duty official X account: “The rumor factory working overtime. This ain't it.” TweakTown also relayed claims from @TheGhostofHope that a delay on the next Xbox console “has impacted Call of Duty's marketing plans, which has resulted in executives discussing the possibility of releasing two Call of Duty games in the same year,” and that Activision at one point wanted to position Modern Warfare 4 to compete with Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI.

Looking beyond 2026, GameRant reported that “recent information from a prominent leaker has suggested” the 2027 Call of Duty will inaugurate a brand-new subseries led by Sledgehammer Games and that the subseries’ inaugural title “is also reportedly going to be missing a Zombies mode itself.” AltChar separately published a Feb 23, 2026 piece noting Microsoft is “reportedly considering to end annual Call of Duty releases,” adding another layer to the scheduling and cadence questions circulating in industry chatter.
As of Feb 27, 2026, outlets are presenting a mix of leaks, platform claims, supply-chain context and one explicit publisher denial of a standalone Zombies product. The Infinity Ward attribution for a 2026 Modern Warfare entry, GameRant’s platform claim, TheGhostOfHope’s Xbox-delay thread, and the Call of Duty X reply are the concrete touchpoints shaping community discussion while official confirmation of the 2026 title name, platform support and development slate remains outstanding.
