Man Assaulted Outside MyBar on Charminster Road in Early Hours
A man in his 40s from Christchurch died after being attacked outside MyBar on Charminster Road at 3am; three men are now held on suspicion of murder.

A man in his 40s from Christchurch was pronounced dead at the scene after officers were called to a report of an assault outside MyBar on Charminster Road, Bournemouth, at around 3am on Monday 6 April 2026. What began as a reported assault became a murder investigation within hours, renewing scrutiny of how Bournemouth's late-night venues manage safety in the window when streets around licensed premises carry their highest and most volatile footfall.
Following fast-time enquiries, two men from Bournemouth aged 37 and 46, along with a 34-year-old man from Poole, were arrested on suspicion of murder as detectives worked to establish a full account of events. His next of kin has been informed.
Detective Chief Inspector Nicky Jenkins said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died and a detailed investigation is under way to establish what happened." An extensive cordon was placed around the Charminster Road venue while officers carried out scene examination.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward. The 3am timing means that footage from vehicles passing MyBar in the minutes surrounding the attack could prove critical to understanding how the confrontation developed and whether security or emergency response gaps contributed to the outcome.

Charminster Road sits within a corridor of Bournemouth hospitality venues that draws large crowds well into the early-morning hours. The concentration of bars in such areas consistently produces the conditions under which assaults escalate: dense crowds, reduced supervision, and a lag between incident and emergency response. The fact that three suspects were located and arrested in short order signals effective initial police work, but the deeper question facing both Dorset Police and Bournemouth's licensing authorities is whether the infrastructure surrounding late-night venues, door security, CCTV coverage, and first-response protocols, is adequate to prevent deaths rather than simply investigate them.
DCI Jenkins confirmed the Major Crime Investigation Team is leading the inquiry. Anyone who was in the Charminster Road area at around 3am on Monday morning and has not yet spoken to police is urged to make contact.
