Melbourne Wellness Club Opens South Yarra Bathhouse With 6°C Cold-Plunge Pool
The Commons Health Club opens South Yarra on March 28 with a 6°C cold plunge, candlelit magnesium soaks at 36°C and 39°C, and 200-plus weekly classes across 5,000sqm.

The Commons Health Club is opening its South Yarra location on Saturday, March 28 at 189 Toorak Road, bringing a full Bathhouse headlined by a 6°C cold-plunge pool to what the club is billing as Melbourne's largest inner-city social wellness destination.
The eight-level building spans more than 5,000 square metres, with five floors dedicated to the Health Club and three to coworking. DesignOffice, the same practice behind the original Richmond location at 33 Cremorne Street, handled the design, working with a materials palette of cork, timber and concrete. South Yarra station and tram Stop 56 are both a one-minute walk from the door.

The Bathhouse is the centrepiece. Alongside the 6°C cold plunge, members get access to magnesium baths held at 36°C and 39°C, a traditional sauna, a steam room and heated stone benches. Signature experiences include candlelit magnesium soaks and community-led bathhouse sessions described as guided walkthroughs where members meet each other while moving through the hot-and-cold ritual sequence. For anyone who wants the full protocol, the Fitness + Bathhouse membership tier is the one to look at — both membership tiers include the 200-plus weekly classes, the full gym floor, the members lounge and community programming, but Bathhouse access sits in the higher tier.
Weekly memberships start at $79. The class schedule runs across reformer Pilates, mat Pilates, spin, strength training, yoga, meditation and movement. Recovery offerings extend beyond the Bathhouse to include red light therapy, lymphatic compression, infrared saunas and science-backed health assessments.
The amenity list goes further than most wellness venues. There's a Maison Margiela fragrance bar (described in some coverage as a seasonal fragrance bar), Dyson and GHD styling stations, a wellness concierge, private laundry services and Commons Coffee on site.
Cliff Ho, Co-Founder and CEO of The Commons, has led the brand from its 2016 founding to 19 locations across Melbourne and Sydney. "We're incredibly proud of this next chapter for The Commons," he said. "The Health Club is an extension of our belief that people thrive when they feel connected, supported and energised. This space brings together movement, recovery and community in a way that supports every part of daily life and it's been inspiring to see so many members already embracing it."
The Richmond club, which opened late last year, gives some indication of what South Yarra will deliver, but the new site is significantly larger. Membership enquiries and tour bookings are available through thecommonshealthclub.com.au, or by calling (03) 9007 2567.
