North Carolina woman missing after being swept away in Grenada

Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, 44, of Cary, North Carolina, was last seen around 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Grand Anse Beach in St. George's, Grenada, where the Royal Grenada Police Force said she disappeared while visiting the island. Police issued a missing-person poster as Grenadian authorities worked to locate her.

Her husband, Cailen Waddell, was on a flight to Grenada to join the search. He told investigators that strong currents quickly carried her away and that he lost sight of her after seeing her attempting to swim toward shore, a detail that points to the risks of open-water conditions along the island's beaches.

Grand Anse Beach lies in the St. George's area, the capital of Grenada, and the last known sighting became the key marker in the case.
