Nye County Accepting Applications for Seven Local Board Vacancies
Nye County is accepting applications to fill seven advisory board vacancies; residents can apply in Tonopah or Pahrump or online, deadline 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026.

The Nye County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications to fill several advisory board vacancies throughout the county. Open positions total seven and cover Belmont, Railroad Valley, the Central Nevada Museum, the Nye County Water District Governing Board in the Tonopah area, and three seats on the Pahrump Library District Board of Trustees.
Completed applications must be received by the Nye County Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Applications are available in person at either Nye County Clerk’s Office location: 101 Radar Rd., Tonopah; 2100 E. Walt Williams Dr., Ste. 200, Pahrump. They are also available online on the Nye County website. Residents interested in serving the community are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should expect to provide standard contact and background information on the county board application form. The form requests the name of the board sought, applicant name, date, home and mailing addresses, home and other telephone numbers, e-mail address, current Nye County employment status, a checkbox for an attached resume or letter of interest, and a brief description of qualifications, experience, or interests that would be an asset to the board. The application contains the certification statement: “I certify that I am a QUALIFIED ELECTOR, that I MEET STATUTORY REQUIRMENTS of the Board.”
After submission, the county follows its Board Appointment Guidelines. “When applicable, the Clerk or the responsible department will forward copies of each application to the Chairman of the Board, Commission or Committee for which the vacancy exists, and to the Commissioner who serves as Liaison to that Board, Commission or Committee, for review.” The guidelines require the chairman to ensure members receive application copies, and they preserve the county’s option to act if no suitable candidates apply: “In the event that no suitable candidates have applied, the County reserves the right to re-advertise the vacancy or solicit additional applications.” The guidelines also say that “The Commissioners may, by majority vote, decide to waive, amend or otherwise modify the processes in these guidelines as conditions dictate.” Town advisory boards that use informal town election processes are treated differently; “These guidelines do not apply to vacancies on Town Advisory Boards when the Town Advisory Board has adopted a formal process for conducting informal town elections. The Commissioners will make the appointment(s) based on the results of the informal election.”
Practical filing options and contacts are available at county offices. The Tonopah Clerk’s Office mailing block lists 101 Radar Road, P.O. Box 153, Tonopah, Nevada 89049, and phone 775-482-8191. The Pahrump Town Office is at 2100 E. Walt Williams Dr., Pahrump, NV 89048, phone 775-727-5107. Nye County Administration in Pahrump can be reached at 775-751-7075. County administrative hours are listed as Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; department-specific hours may vary.
These vacancies touch water governance, cultural stewardship, rural town advisory representation, and library oversight. Filling them affects local oversight and service delivery in Tonopah, Belmont, Railroad Valley and Pahrump. For applicants, the next steps are to obtain and complete the board application, certify eligibility, and deliver it to the Clerk’s Office before the deadline. If no candidate meets board needs, the county may re-advertise or adjust procedures, so residents who miss this round can watch for further notices as the commission processes applications and schedules appointments.
