Sam Edgar to Perform at First Presbyterian First Friday Feb. 6
Violinist Sam Edgar will perform a 30-minute First Friday concert at First Presbyterian in Sterling, with the church streaming the midday program for local viewers.

Violinist Sam Edgar will be the featured musician at First Friday @ First Presbyterian on Feb. 6, presenting a 30-minute midday program at First Presbyterian, 130 South 4th Street in Sterling. The concert runs 12:05–12:35 p.m., and the church will livestream the performance on its YouTube channel so residents can watch live or view the recording afterward.
Program highlights are compact and varied. “The eclectic program will include ‘Sunrise, Sunset,’ ‘The Prayer,’ ‘Sing As One,’ ‘Midnight Bells’ by Kreisler and more,” providing a mix of familiar tunes and classical showpieces in a lunchtime format. Sam Edgar will be accompanied by pianist Mary Smith for the Feb. 6 performance.
The concert is part of a continuing community series. “First Friday @ First Presbyterian is an ongoing series of musical performances showcasing the talents of local artists.” The series has used online platforms in recent seasons; organizers have noted that “Once this performance is over, it will stay up on Facebook to be viewable later,” reflecting a practice of making performances available after the live event for broader access.
Sam Edgar brings deep local roots and decades of musical experience to the program. He grew up near San Diego, studied music from age eight and played in The San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra from ages 14 to 18. Edgar earned a Sociology degree from the University of California, Riverside, later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated from Grace Bible College before settling with his family in Merino in 1978. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 2000, has worked as a house painter and taught Spanish at Northeastern Junior College, and has performed extensively in the region with large and small ensembles, Master Chorale, and at church events. Family details include wife Sharon, three grown children, 12 grandchildren and a new great-grandchild.
For Logan County residents, the First Friday slot offers a convenient cultural option during the lunch hour that can draw workers, seniors and downtown visitors into the city center while supporting local performers. Sam Edgar’s long-standing collaborations in the area underscore the event’s community ties; he has appeared alongside other local artists in the series and has performed with singer Chris Penner for more than 20 years.
The Feb. 6 appearance continues First Presbyterian’s effort to pair local talent with short, accessible concerts that can be consumed in person or online. Locals who cannot attend in person can view the concert via the church’s livestream and watch the recording later; those who do attend will find a compact program led by a musician with deep connections to the region.
