The concept video opens with sweeping aerial shots over Biscayne Boulevard before revealing a glass skyscraper that, in the renderings, reduces Miami's Freedom Tower to roughly one-quarter its height. Gold lettering spells TRUMP across the facade, an American flag hangs down the center, and a spire rises from the roof. This is the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library as presented Monday by the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation Inc., and its financial architecture may prove as consequential as its architectural one.

Tax filings show the foundation is planning to raise nearly $1 billion over the next three years while Trump is still in office. The foundation was granted nonprofit status through what the Miami Herald described as an "extraordinarily quick approval process by the IRS," and much of the public money raised so far has come through settlements with media companies that Trump sued. Presidential libraries sit in a distinctive regulatory space: they are one of the few vehicles through which a sitting president can solicit foreign donations without ever having to disclose the donors.

The video, nearly two minutes long and scored with dramatic orchestral music, appears to have been created using an AI video generator, a production choice that produced an immediately noticed error. The name "Donald J. Trump Presidential Library" appeared on screen as "Donald J. Trump Presidential Lierary." Eric Trump, who posted the video on X and leads the library foundation, said he has dedicated the past six months to the project alongside his team at the Trump Organization. His post read: "FIRST LOOK: The Donald J. Trump Presidential Library is officially here. This landmark on the water in Miami, Florida will stand as a lasting testament to an amazing man, an amazing developer, and the greatest President our Nation has ever known. These images have never been seen by the public—until today. Enjoy!" President Trump simultaneously posted the same video on Truth Social with a link to donate to the foundation.

The video depicts a program scaled to match the tower's ambition. A Boeing 747 given to Trump by the Qatari government is set to be displayed in the lobby, according to NBC News, alongside gold escalators evoking Trump Tower in New York City. Visitors would access replicas of the Oval Office, the Rose Garden, and a West Colonnade dubbed the presidential walk of fame, along with a new presidential ballroom and an amphitheater designed so audiences face a golden statue of the president. According to a Politico report, the tower would rise 47 stories, with a traditional library occupying the lower floors and hotel, office, and restaurant space above.

The proposed site is a nearly 3-acre waterfront parcel on Biscayne Boulevard valued at more than $67 million, not far from Trump National Doral, the resort operated by Trump's family business. The land was contested last fall after a federal judge paused its transfer from a local college to the state; the judge threw out the case in December and allowed the transfer to proceed. Miami-based architecture and engineering firm Bermello Ajamil is designated to design the library, though several outlets noted the released renderings may not represent a finalized plan.

The rendering's most pointed statement may be geographic. The Freedom Tower, a downtown Miami landmark that served as a refugee processing center for Cuban asylum seekers and now operates as a museum, appears roughly one-quarter the height of the proposed Trump structure in the video. Cuban Americans were a decisive demographic in Trump's 2024 victory in historically Democratic Miami-Dade County, and a tower that visually dominates that skyline is not an incidental design choice.
