The gate was not wide open: FAI’s category 2 rules required either an FAI Sporting Licence or an FAI Permission for Drone Racing, so ranking alone was never the full answer.

That deadline carried more weight because Ningbo sat inside a sequenced season, not a one-off showcase. The Mirror e-Drone Racing World Cup opened the year first, with registration running from 11 May to 22 May, qualification from 15 May to 22 May, and competition on Saturday 23 May at 12:00 UTC. Pilots who banked points there had the early edge before Ningbo’s window tightened.

The Ningbo page on EreaDrone identified the event as the 2026 FAI Ningbo e-Drone Racing World Cup and listed FAI as organizer. FAI’s June 22 YouTube description called it the second e-Drone event of the year and linked live results and brackets for the race, reinforcing how much the format leaned on public rankings and draw order rather than a simple entry list.

That bracket structure mattered because the race was built to reward consistency deep into the elimination ladder, from the 16th finals onward. The live race list in FAI’s description featured wochawo, abb567, SKAN_AIR, LuckyNemo, gokigen, Miko, Peteris, DuoNaFPV, ZAK1_4G, RedSheep, Rambro and AlweFPV, a field that showed how international the draw had become by the time Ningbo went live.

For pilots still trying to force their way into the lineup, the consequence of waiting past the June 20 cutoff was simple: the Ningbo route closed, and the only path left was the next ranking opportunity on the 2026 calendar. In a series driven by live brackets, license status and ranking placement, the early rounds were already deciding who would have a shot at the title race in Ningbo.
