East Central improves to 20-3, routs Columbus East 53-16
East Central dominated the Sectional 14 opener at Columbus East, winning 53-16 behind stifling defense and standout scoring from Natalie Stenger and Audrina Dugan.

East Central turned the IHSAA Class 4A Sectional 14 opener into a defensive clinic, routing host Columbus East 53-16 at Columbus East High School and advancing in the sectional bracket.
The Trojans smothered the Olympians with full-court pressure and a relentless turnover game that kept Columbus East off balance all night. Natalie Stenger led East Central with a game-high 17 points while Audrina Dugan added 12, pacing an offense that finished well below Columbus East’s season scoring average. East Central limited the Olympians to just 16 points, a dramatic drop from Columbus East’s stated season average of 41.8 points per game.
"The East Central Trojans made a powerful statement in their opening game of the IHSAA Class 4A girls basketball state tournament on Tuesday night, overwhelming Columbus East 53-16 in a lopsided Sectional 14 contest at Columbus East High School." The Trojans' pressure created a steady stream of easy opportunities in transition and short-turnover possessions, and East Central converted those chances into a comfortable margin by halftime.

The victory improves East Central to 20-3 on the season while Columbus East falls to 5-19. "The No. 25-ranked Trojans (20-3) showcased their defensive prowess and offensive efficiency in routing the Olympians (5-19), who struggled to find any offensive rhythm against one of southeastern Indiana’s most formidable defensive units." East Central entered the postseason with strong season numbers, including a scoring average near 57.3 points per game and a team turnover-hunting profile that has produced nearly 16 steals per contest.
East Central’s sectional win continues a pattern of lopsided results this season. The Trojans have recorded double-digit blowouts frequently, winning multiple games by margins of 21 points or more, and swept Columbus East in the regular season meeting as well, beating the Olympians 55-27 on November 19. The defensive identity that has delivered those margins was on full display here as East Central repeatedly disrupted set offenses and forced hurried shots.

"Audrina Dugan was another key player, putting up 12 points." With the sectional bracket moving forward, East Central is scheduled to face Franklin Community at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, giving the Trojans a short turnaround to prepare for a tougher test. For Columbus East, the loss ends the season and caps a difficult stretch that saw multiple setbacks down the stretch.
East Central’s fans can take heart in a postseason-ready defense that has delivered consistent results; the Trojans now head into the next round with momentum, clear identity, and a defensive standard that will determine how deep this team can go in the Class 4A tournament.
