Goshen closed its regular season with a 60-34 nonconference victory over John Glenn at Interra Gym on senior night, Friday, Feb. 27. The RedHawks struck first with the game’s opening six points and never trailed in front of the home crowd.

Goshen led 14-10 after one quarter, riding an early burst that put the RedHawks up 11-2 at one point in the opening period. The second quarter pushed the margin to 22-12 before John Glenn cut the lead to five when Nicks drained a three-pointer with 54 seconds left. Levi Sawatzky answered with a three with 1.5 seconds remaining in the half to send Goshen to the locker room up 25-17.

The RedHawks seized control in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons 21-11 to enter the fourth up 46-28. Goshen added 14 points in the fourth while John Glenn managed six, and the biggest spread of the night was reported as 28 at 60-32 before the final buzzer read 60-34.

Turnovers and finishing inside shaped the outcome. John Glenn committed 15 turnovers, while Goshen was credited with eight total turnovers, six of which came in the first half, meaning Goshen had just two turnovers after intermission. Both teams collected 17 rebounds; Sawatzky and Karter Marcum led Goshen with four boards each and Glenn’s Rust pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Seniors were a recurring presence in the game photos and recaps. Goshennews identified Levi Sawatzky as a senior who scored from underneath and hit the late first-half three, Evan Timmons (No. 32) shown blocking a Falcon shot, Karter Marcum scoring from under the basket, Ryen Diaz (No. 11) floating to the rim, and Braxton Cline driving around a defender on Interra Court.

The Goshen junior varsity rolled earlier in the night, posting a 72-43 victory over John Glenn’s JV. Talen Carthans led the JV RedHawks with 22 points, Kanyn Diemer-Abney added 15, Holden Ebright Zehr had 13, Ben Mast scored 6 and Francis Buyco 5. For the JV Falcons, Micah Fleck scored 13, Riggins Miller 10, Warren Hardesty 6 and Giovanni Thiele 5.

Next up for both programs are sectional assignments. Goshen is scheduled to open Class 4A Elkhart Sectional 4 against Concord at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3. John Glenn will head to Class 3A New Prairie Sectional 19 to face South Bend Washington. Goshen’s cleaner second-half ball security, only two turnovers after halftime, and balanced rebounding will be metrics to watch as the postseason begins.
