North Daviess Coach Brent Dalrymple Steps Down After 26 Seasons

Brent Dalrymple built North Daviess boys basketball from the ground up over 26 seasons, accumulated 383 wins, and closed his coaching career the same way he opened it: at a sectional tournament. On Friday, March 13, he posted his farewell statement on X, stepping away from the only head coaching job he ever held.

The 2025-26 season ended the week prior at the Loogootee Sectional, where North Daviess fell to eventual sectional champion Barr-Reeve 63-30 in the semifinal round, finishing 15-9. It was a sharp contrast to the program's high-water mark: a 27-3 run in 2022 that ended with a Class 1A state championship at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, a 48-46 double-overtime victory over Lafayette Central Catholic. That title earned Dalrymple the Bob King Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year award.

The 2022 championship was the apex of a career that began in the 2000-2001 season, when Dalrymple inherited a program and promptly won a sectional title in his very first year. He later described that moment as "one of the most amazing, cool things I've ever been a part of." Over his full tenure, local reporting credits him with a career record of 383-248 and all seven sectional titles in North Daviess program history.

In his statement, Dalrymple thanked his family for their support across those 26 seasons and acknowledged the surrounding schools and coaches whose success helped define what North Daviess could aspire to be. He kept his closing simple: "Time to go buy that horse and ride off into the sunset."

No successor has been named, and North Daviess has not yet released a statement regarding a coaching search.
