North Vermillion Claims Class A Fountain Central Sectional Title, 69-53

North Vermillion capped a breakthrough postseason week with a 69-53 victory over Lafayette Central Catholic on Saturday night, claiming the IHSAA Class A Fountain Central sectional championship behind a fourth-quarter surge led by sophomore guard Teagan Leonard.

Coach Dunn credited a suffocating defensive approach for setting the tone. "We were really going to have to be physical, keep them out of the middle and we took them out of the paint," he said. "We dominated the boards. A credit to how hard our kids played tonight."

The Falcons got contributions up and down the lineup. Skinner posted 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior Aiden Schaumburg added 11 points. Cooper Dunn ran the point for North Vermillion, putting his father in the uncommon position of coaching his own son on a sectional championship stage.

That dynamic drew some attention postgame. Dunn acknowledged being reminded to maintain perspective on the dual role. "I've got some great assistants keep me in check," he said. "It makes it easy when your son is a great kid. I have to remember that sometimes and he's giving me everything he's got."

North Vermillion's physical style neutralized Lafayette Central Catholic's interior attack throughout the contest, and the Falcons extended their lead decisively in the final quarter to put the game away.

The sectional title sets up a regional matchup for the Falcons: Rossville will face North Vermillion at 1 p.m. Saturday in Frankfort.
