BM Smashers, Big Dinks Secure Key Wins in Pune Pickleball League Opener
Tanish Belgalkar and Aniket Shinde opened with an 11-0 blanking as BM Smashers beat Hublikar Hurricanes 5-3 in Pune's first PYC-Pusalkar Foundation Pickleball League.

Three consecutive shutouts set the tone at PYC Hindu Gymkhana's pickleball courts in Pune, where BM Smashers dismantled Hublikar Hurricanes 5-3 and The Big Dinks overwhelmed Gold Leaf Hunters 6-2 in league-round action at the inaugural PYC-Pusalkar Foundation Pickleball League.
BM Smashers came out hitting. Tanish Belgalkar and Aniket Shinde blanked Ranjit Pande and Vedaant Dham 11-0 in the opening doubles, and the momentum never really left. Aarin Mali and Pratik Dharmadhikari followed with an 11-1 win over Anuj Chhajed and Apoorv Sontakke, then Abhijeet Ganu and Shaan Madan beat Swaroop Kulkarni and Jinesh Jain 11-2. Three rubbers played, three rubbers won, three combined points conceded. That kind of early pressure changes a tie before it has a chance to become competitive.
Hublikar Hurricanes did claw back points. Janhavi Kore and Rohit Bhalerao took Mix Doubles 1 over Aaryan Shirole and Isha Pathak 11-9, and Rahul Pathak and Venkatesh Kashelikar beat the senior doubles pair of Amol Mehendale and Jaya Patankar 15-9. Nakul Belvalkar and Akshay Oke also took Open Doubles 4 over Riaan Mali and Vedant Khatod 15-11 to make it a competitive 5-3 on paper. But BM Smashers had banked enough. Amar Shroff and Siddharth Badamikar closed things out with an 11-5 win over Pratik Hublikar and Gayatri Natekar in Open Doubles 5. Mix Doubles 2 was settled by walkover, with Abhijit Rajawade and Radhika Ingalhalikar receiving the points after opponents Rucha Dhavalikar and Raunaq Sawkar did not take the court.
The Big Dinks had a rougher start against Gold Leaf Hunters before finding an equally decisive gear. After dropping the opening doubles, Mihir Thombre and Nakul Ogale responded with an 11-0 statement win that flipped the tie's momentum. Nandan Dongre and Sarang Athavale, Vinit Rathi and Bhagyshree Deshpande, and the senior pairing of Kaustubh Valimbe and Saurabh Prabhudesai built on that platform to seal a 6-2 result that was not as tight as the early rubber suggested.

Both teams carried that form into the knockout rounds. The Big Dinks beat Gargantu Destroyers 4-3 in a closely contested semifinal, with Anish Rane, Aryan Sutar, Thombre, Ogale, Shalvi Gujar, Vineet Rathi, Srushti Khatod, and Yogesh Bhogashetti contributing to the win. BM Smashers edged K-PR Picklers 4.5-4 in the other semifinal, a scoreline that reflects just how tight that match ran, with Belgalkar, Shinde, Aarin Mali, Dharmadhikari, Isha Pathak, Amar Shroff, and Siddharth Badamikar among those who delivered for the team.
The first edition of the PYC-Pusalkar Foundation Pickleball League, organized by PYC Hindu Gymkhana and played across March 4-8 at the PYC Pickleball Courts, set up a final between the two teams who had done the most convincing damage in the league round.
