Community Cup debuts in Malaysia, opens tournament play for novices
Malaysia's community-focused pickleball cup took place, giving Novice players a tournament debut and more than RM80,000 in prizes.

The inaugural Pickleball Community Cup took place on 16 January 2026 at Grand Rally, Shah Alam, running from 8am to 10pm and centering grassroots play over elite competition. Jointly organised by Pickle NO-CAP! Club, Abuden Pickleball Club and My Pickleball Time, the one-day event brought community courtsmanship into the spotlight with a carnival atmosphere of social play, sideline activities and competitive opportunity for players taking their first steps into tournaments.
The three organising groups, which represent more than 6,000 players across the Klang Valley and have run over 500 games regionally, designed the Cup specifically to fill a gap in local competition. Rather than catering to intermediate or advanced draws, the event concentrated on Novice and Advanced Novice divisions so social players could experience proper tournament play without being overwhelmed. “Most pickleball players in Malaysia are social players,” shared the organisers. “They play within their own communities, they’re passionate about the sport, and they’ve been waiting for an event like this. The Community Cup is about celebrating those players and bringing everyone together under one roof.”
The tournament featured two DUPR-based categories: Novice (DUPR ≤ 2.75) and Advanced Novice (DUPR ≤ 3.2), giving clear entry points for players who train in weekend socials and club meetups. Organisers emphasised a welcoming environment, matching the competitive format with support structures for first-time competitors and a lively spectator scene so family and friends could cheer on new rivals and teammates.
Title sponsorship from CelcomDigi helped scale the event, improving infrastructure and on-site player experience while aligning with the Cup’s community and active-living goals. A broad sponsor roster underlined growing commercial interest in Malaysian pickleball: Nova Capital, Arronax (official paddle and balls), Sunlolly, Montigo, Skintific, Thomson, Gatorade, Perrier, Holyland and media partners including Pickle361 joined the effort to bring cash and product support. The total prize pool exceeded RM80,000 in cash and sponsored goodies, an unusually large purse for a community-focused event and a strong incentive for rookie competitors to test themselves.

Registration had been offered with fees starting from RM250 for Novice and RM300 for Advanced Novice, and organisers had warned of limited slots due to strong early interest. Followers and competitors had been directed to @comcup.my on Instagram for updates and event content.
For players who have spent years in social circuits, the Community Cup proved that tournament experience can be organised with community spirit intact. The event sets a new benchmark for grassroots competition in Malaysia and signals that the next phase of growth will emphasize broad access to competitive play, not just elite pathways. For local players, that means more opportunities to earn a DUPR, gain match experience and bring their socials to the next level.
