Indonesia Unveils Strategy to Accelerate Pickleball Growth, Expand Courts
Apex Sports Village and Match Point announced a Feb 20, 2026 partnership to bring Columbus Arsenal instructors and tournament support to Bali as PB IPF and clubs push nationwide court growth.

Apex Sports Village in Uluwatu and Match Point Pickleball Club announced a partnership on February 20, 2026, a move that complements Indonesian Pickleball Federation activity at VATA Courts in Kemang and a detikSport-led push to expand participation and infrastructure nationwide. The partnership pledges top-tier instructors from the Columbus Arsenal and support for international tournaments as part of a coordinated effort to scale courts and competitive pathways across Indonesia.
detikSport has framed a national strategy to make pickleball more popular across Indonesia, emphasizing boosted participation and infrastructure development amid rising traction in Southeast Asia. That national-level focus sits alongside federation programming: PB IPF deputy chairman Harlin Rahardjo introduced pickleball as a Ramadan ngabuburit activity at a journalists’ event at VATA Courts in South Jakarta, saying, "This is a new tradition during Ramadan this year, playing pickleball while waiting for the time to break the fast." Harlin added the initiative "aims to combine sport, social interaction and a healthy lifestyle during the fasting month."
Bali is already positioning itself as a regional hub. The Bali Pickleball Club, profiled by Pickle Asia, hosts international players such that, "in any given game, you might find yourself partnering with players from three different continents." The feature notes BPC is expanding facilities, planning more international tournaments, and running training programs for tourists and local players along with dedicated youth development aimed at producing Indonesian talent, under the promotional line, "Get ready to add 'playing pickleball in paradise' to your bucket list!"
Grassroots organizing remains central to growth. East Jakarta resident and 5.0 player Dr. Cak Susilo, 50, who says he introduced pickleball to Indonesia in 2019, built two courts next to his home, ran lessons and tournaments, and watched participation climb from five students to, in his estimate, "more than 10,000 pickleball players in 34 Indonesian provinces." Cak, who holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education and Training, estimates about 80 percent of regional players sit at the 3.5 level and said, "I am so happy because many people here play pickleball." Hudef Sport is reported to have supplied him with dozens of paddles and gear.

Private-sector suppliers are moving to meet demand: Indonesia Contractors markets court design and construction in Nusa Penida, citing year-round tropical play, tourism appeal and the creation of social hubs for leagues and tournaments. The Feb 20, 2026 partnership release quotes Bill Taylor, Chief Vision Officer at Match Point, saying, "Pickleball and TYPTI are more than games—they’re communities, lifestyles, and opportunities for growth that transcend borders," and Roy Santoso, CEO and co-founder of Apex Sports Village, stating, "We are excited to announce our partnership with Match Point and Columbus Arsenal." Match Point describes itself as "home to the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility."
The combination of PB IPF promotion at VATA Courts, Bali club expansion, grassroots claims of rapid provincial spread, commercial court construction in Nusa Penida and the Match Point–Apex agreement creates a clear roadmap toward more courts, instructors and international events. Key open items remain definitional and verifiable: the scope and start dates for instructor deployments, the meaning of "TYPTI" in the partnership materials, and independent confirmation of participation figures such as Cak Susilo’s >10,000-player estimate. If those pieces align, Indonesia could accelerate from a burgeoning market to a Southeast Asian pickleball hub with pathways from neighborhood courts to international tournament floors.
