TNPA Hosts Women-Only Pickleball Tournament in Chennai for International Women's Day

More than 50 women took to the courts in Chennai on March 8 as the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Association staged a women-only team tournament timed to International Women's Day, positioning the event as equal parts competitive sport and grassroots recruitment drive for the city's growing pickleball scene.

The tournament ran as a team competition, a format that organisers framed as central to the event's broader purpose. TNPA designed the day to celebrate the increasing number of women picking up pickleball in Chennai while simultaneously trying to pull in players who had never held a paddle. Organisers stated their belief that the tournament would help strengthen the local pickleball community while promoting the game among new players.

The team format itself carries significance in that context. Unlike singles or doubles draws, team events create collective investment in outcomes and give newer players a supportive competitive structure rather than the pressure of individual elimination brackets.
