Naptown Siren edges Minnesota Nice in dramatic one-point finish

Naptown Siren edged Minnesota Nice 147-146 in the kind of finish that can turn an ordinary sanctioned game into a rankings swing, and it shared the spotlight with another one-point grinder as Paris Roller Derby All Stars slipped past Crime City Rollers A-Team 143-142 in Europe.

Those two margins framed a day that was less about runaway favorites than about how little separates the middle of the WFTDA ladder from the upper tier. WFTDA Stats listed Minnesota Nice at 35th and Naptown Siren at 40th in North America Northeast entering the matchup, a gap small enough that one lost jam, one penalty sequence or one clean defensive stand could decide everything. That is exactly what a 147-146 scoreline suggests.

The European side of the calendar delivered the same tension in Namur, Belgium, where the 2026 WFTDA European Regional Championships ran June 12-14 at the Centre Namurois des Sports Tabora. Toulouse Roller Derby won the event, Rainy City Roller Derby finished second, Paris took third and Crime City placed fourth, with the bronze-medal game itself going to Paris by a single point. WFTDA named Flashy Strike of Nantes Roller Derby as MVP Blocker and Fanilla Slice of Crime City Rollers as MVP Jammer, awards that fit a tournament defined by pressure and narrow margins.

The rest of the June 14 slate showed the other side of the sport’s competitive map, with several regional games opening into wider gaps. In North America Northeast, Aroostook beat Maine Old Port 188-128, N Star Novas topped Twin State 203-123, Harrisbg Knock outscored Dirty Jersey 246-212, and Boston B rolled over Ann Arbor B 263-70. Europe had its own decisive results, including Toulouse’s 149-119 win over Rainy City in the final, Tiger Bay’s 207-103 victory over Barcelona A, Nantes Duch.es’s 173-95 defeat of LDN Brawling and Wiltshire’s 142-92 result over Liverpool A.

That mix of one-point escapes and lopsided finishes is what makes the current derby calendar so revealing. WFTDA says regional championships are held between April and June of even years, teams need at least five sanctioned games against reasonably close opponents to qualify, and results feed the regional rankings that shape championship paths. Europe and North America Northeast remain two of the federation’s six competitive regions, and on June 14 the scoreboard showed both the sport’s depth and its thin margins.
