Barcelona launches first province-wide cancer solidarity circuit across 15 municipalities

Barcelona is turning charity running into a province-wide circuit rather than a single one-off fundraiser, and that shift could change how cancer-solidarity events work across the province. Km contra el cáncer, promoted by L’Associació Contra el Càncer a Barcelona, will move through 15 municipalities from April through November 2026, with organizers expecting more than 14,000 participants.

The format is built for reach as much as for fundraising. Official event listings say people can take part by running, walking or cheering, widening the entry point beyond serious runners and making the campaign accessible to families, casual exercisers and local clubs. That matters in a province where mass-participation races often compete for attention with smaller neighborhood events. A circuit model gives the campaign repeated visibility, multiple local entry points and a longer fundraising window than a single annual race.

The message behind the circuit is just as important as the calendar. The campaign links physical activity to cancer prevention and patient support, with a simple call built around 30 minutes of daily exercise. The World Health Organization recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity a week and says physical inactivity raises the risk of cancers such as breast and colon cancer. The International Agency for Research on Cancer likewise identifies physical inactivity, sedentary behavior and overweight and obesity as major modifiable cancer risk factors.

Barcelona already had a working example for this approach. The 9th Barcelona En Marxa Contra el Càncer took place on December 14, 2025 at Parc del Fòrum, and the event platform said 100% of inscription money was directed to cancer research. That model helped establish a civic fit between sport, fundraising and public-health messaging, and the new circuit expands it from a flagship city race into a broader provincial series.

Two early stops show how the circuit is being rolled out on the ground. The VI Cursa Km contra el cáncer Castellbell i el Vilar is scheduled for April 26, 2026 at 10:00 in Castellbell i el Vilar, and the 10th Cursa Km contra el càncer Barcelona al Port | DEICHMANN is set for May 31, 2026 at the Port of Barcelona. With walking, running and community participation built into the format, Km contra el cáncer is positioning itself as both a fundraiser and a recurring public-health event calendar for the province.
