Barcelona is fast emerging as a connected-care hub where fitness, rehab and preventive health are starting to share the same digital language. The 7th Global Summit on Digital Therapeutics brought that shift into focus on April 20-21, 2026, under the theme Future-Proofing Healthcare Through Digital Interventions, with a program aimed at healthcare, technology, pharma and academia rather than a traditional gym audience.

That matters for Barcelona’s fitness sector because the tools driving digital therapeutics are the same ones reshaping coaching and movement services. Real-world evidence was positioned as central to proving safety, effectiveness and utility outside controlled clinical settings, while another session stressed blending pharmacotherapy with digital tools to improve engagement, track medication adherence and tailor treatment plans in real time. In practical terms, those capabilities overlap with injury recovery, chronic-condition management, weight control, rehabilitation and remote coaching, areas where clients increasingly expect measurable progress instead of one-off sessions.

The summit also underlined how closely Barcelona’s health-tech calendar is converging around the same idea. MWC Barcelona 2026 held a Digital Health Summit on March 3 focused on interoperable platforms, real-time clinical data, AI-enabled services and virtual care at scale. 4YFN Barcelona 2026 added a Health Tech track that framed digital therapeutics as part of AI-powered healthcare and patient empowerment. Together, those events reinforce a market where movement, monitoring and medical workflows are no longer separate lanes.

Barcelona’s local ecosystem gives that convergence real weight. Barcelona Health Hub says it now connects more than 500 members across startups, hospitals, universities, corporations and investors, while Biocat reported that Catalonia’s health startups and scaleups raised a record €517 million in 2025, with 82% of transactions involving international investors. That mix of capital, clinical institutions and startup density helps explain why the city keeps drawing digital-health meetings that now spill into sports medicine and wellness.

The local sports side is already leaning in. SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and Hospital Clínic de Barcelona describe their joint sports medicine unit as the only one of its kind in Barcelona, and Barça Innovation Hub says its health and wellness work centers on injury prevention, recovery, athlete well-being and technology-driven methods. For operators with apps, remote touchpoints and data-led coaching, the opportunity is clear. For businesses still built only around in-person classes, Barcelona’s latest summit made the risk just as clear: the gap between fitness and care is narrowing quickly.
