Tazo is pushing past tea and into a broader at-home beverage platform with new Protein Latte Powders that deliver 20 grams of protein and 5 grams of sugar per serving in chai latte and matcha latte flavors. The launch is designed to make protein feel less like a gym product and more like a café routine, with latte formats that lean on comfort, flavor and a familiar hot-drink ritual.

The new protein powders arrive alongside Organic Matcha Latte Powders in classic, blueberry and vanilla, plus Wellness Blends that are caffeine-free and built around fruit and herbal flavors. Those wellness blends come in blueberry lavender lemon balm, mango tangerine turmeric, spiced apple chamomile, pineapple lemon chill, lemon lychee ginger and honey lemon eucalyptus, giving Tazo a lineup that stretches from indulgent latte to calming, feel-good cup. The company said the beverage innovations will launch in retailers nationwide this year.

“Our innovation work at Tazo is driven by formulation science as much as exceptional flavor delivery,” said Alex White, Tazo’s research and innovation director. That balance matters here because the challenge is not just adding protein, but making whey protein isolate work in a hot latte without flattening the mouthfeel or dulling the taste. Tazo is betting consumers want the nutrition, but still expect a drink that behaves like a café pour rather than a chalky shake.

The move also fits the way Tazo already talks about itself. Its U.S. site says the brand offers tea bags, K-Cup pods and lattes and invites consumers to “Brew the Unexpected.” Its tea-concentrate pages describe tea latte mixes as concentrated lattes that are mixed with milk to make hot or iced tea lattes, framing the category as something that belongs in the kitchen, not just behind a café counter. Tazo and Issa Rae launched the TAZO Cafe Collective on Sept. 28, 2023, with a stated $250,000+ commitment to invest in local and independent cafes, another sign the brand has been building a wider coffeehouse-style identity.

Tazo is entering a crowded protein beverage moment. Starbucks added protein cold foam and protein lattes in 2025, with 15 grams of protein in the cold foam and 27 to 36 grams in its protein lattes. Califia Farms launched a protein vanilla almond latte in 2025 with 10 grams of pea protein and 5 grams of sugar, Laird Superfood introduced a protein instant latte with 10 grams of protein, and Tim Hortons U.S. announced iced protein matcha latte and iced protein chai latte in 2026. Against that backdrop, Tazo’s pitch is less about competing on pure protein counts and more about owning the occasion: a latte that feels like a treat, functions like a wellness drink and gives tea a bigger job in the day.
