Pizza Hut reopens in Afghanistan and starts hiring staff

Pizza Hut reopened a restaurant in Camp Phoenix, Kabul, and Majid Mall Kabul posted a May 6 employment notice for Pizza Hut Afghanistan that said, "We're hiring." The return has drawn attention on social media because it puts the chain back in a market where store openings, staffing and security all move together.

The company has been in Afghanistan before. DVIDS's story "First fast-food vendor reopens in Afghanistan" said Pizza Hut was the first fast-food restaurant to open in the country after the ban was lifted in September 2010, again tying the brand to Camp Phoenix in Kabul. That earlier footprint matters because it shows Pizza Hut has used military-linked locations in Afghanistan before, not just one-off retail experiments.

A separate Facebook post from the 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade put the reopening in even sharper focus, saying, "Pizza Hut reopens a restaurant in Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan." That location, inside a military environment, is part of what makes the story more than a simple brand relaunch. It points to the kind of restricted, higher-control operating setting where a restaurant depends on steady staffing, supply flow and local management discipline from day one.

For Pizza Hut workers in the U.S., the Afghanistan reopening is only relevant if it reflects a wider pattern: franchises reopening closed stores, hiring quickly in difficult markets, or leaning on military-base and institutional sites where demand can be more predictable than in street-facing trade. When that happens, it can affect how operators think about training, scheduling and labor needs, especially in markets where staffing is tight and restaurants have to reopen with a full crew instead of a skeleton shift.
