Six Customers Beat Fast-Food Worker Over Nacho-Flavored Fries Complaint

A 23-year-old fast-food employee was hospitalized after six people dragged him out of a drive-thru on the first block of Williamson Boulevard in Ormond Beach at 8:39 p.m. on March 14, beating him over a dispute about nacho-flavored fries.

Police say the trouble started at the drive-thru speaker, where the group began arguing and using profane language before they even reached the window. When they pulled up to collect their order, they complained about the number of nacho-flavored fries they had received. Employees gave them more fries. The group drove through the line a second time and claimed they still hadn't received their fries.

The confrontation escalated when one of the suspects threw a drink at the employees. An employee threw it back. The car then drove around the building, parked at the front door, and all six people got out of the vehicle. The 23-year-old employee was dragged outside and beaten. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries. Ormond Beach police listed the offense as battery, touch and strike.

The assault suspects remain wanted, according to police records. No names, ages, or formal charges for the six individuals involved in the beating have been released.

The incident is one of a string of violent episodes that fast-food workers have faced at drive-thrus in recent years, where the combination of anonymity, frustration, and close quarters has repeatedly turned minor order disputes into physical altercations. For the employee on the Williamson Boulevard shift that evening, a disagreement over a side of flavored fries ended with a hospital visit.
