Universal to permanently close Mythos Restaurant in 2027, reshaping Lost Continent
Mythos will shut in 2027, giving restaurant workers rare lead time as Universal reshapes Lost Continent and prepares a new full-service dining room.

Mythos Restaurant is heading toward a permanent shutdown in 2027, and the long runway matters as much as the closure itself. Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed the full-service spot in Islands of Adventure’s Lost Continent will be part of a broader reset of the land, giving cooks, servers, bartenders and hosts something restaurant workers rarely get when a venue disappears: time to plan for transfers, retraining or a move before the doors close for good.
That timeline stands out in an industry where dining rooms often vanish with little warning. Mythos has been one of the park’s signature tables since it opened on May 28, 1999, with its cave-like dining room, waterfalls, rock formations and lagoon views turning it into a destination rather than just another theme-park meal stop. Universal describes it as an award-winning restaurant serving Mediterranean, Asian and American fare, with reservations, set hours and a phone number still listed on its site even as the closure clock starts ticking.
The move also signals that Mythos is not being treated as an isolated loss. Universal has already said construction activity would begin in the Lost Continent as part of site planning for future developments, and earlier reports pointed to demolition across 4.9 acres tied to the former Poseidon’s Fury and The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad areas. Poseidon’s Fury closed on May 10, 2023, while The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad shut down in 2018, leaving more of the land open to rework.

Universal still describes the Lost Continent as a mythological zone built around ancient Greek gods, mythical creatures, fortune tellers and talking fountains, with The Mystic Fountain and other remaining experiences still folded into the area’s identity. But the dining side is clearly moving first. Reports say Thunder Falls Terrace will close this summer and reopen in 2027 as a new signature full-service restaurant, making Mythos part of a wider dining reshuffle across Islands of Adventure rather than a one-off casualty.
For workers, the significance is practical. A confirmed 2027 closure creates a longer window for managers to map labor needs, for staff to compare hours and positions elsewhere in the resort, and for seasoned front-of-house teams to decide whether to stay in Universal’s operation or look for work before the last service. In a business built on high turnover and thin margins, that kind of notice is rare.
