Walmart-exclusive FitRx dumbbells recalled after plates dislodge, causing injuries
More than 50,000 Walmart-sold FitRx dumbbells were recalled after plates dislodged mid-use, with at least six injuries and a free replacement offered.

Walmart shoppers who bought FitRx SmartBell Quick-Select 5-52.5 lbs. adjustable dumbbells needed to stop using them immediately after federal safety officials said the weight plates could dislodge from the handle during use, creating an impact injury hazard. The recall covered about 50,000 units, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said there had been more than 115 reports of plates dislodging and at least six injuries, including broken toes, bruises, contusions and lacerations.
The recalled product was model 8361, sold at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $100. Shoppers and service-desk associates could identify the affected units by checking for serial numbers KK23288361 through KK23388361 and KK207608361 through KK21347836. Those details matter because the recall applied to a specific run of the adjustable dumbbells, not every FitRx weight set sold at Walmart.
Tzumi Electronics said customers should contact the company for a free replacement of the dumbbell and tray. The recall instructions said the tray should be marked “Recalled” before registering, and customers could reach Tzumi at 866-363-2237 or smartbellrecall@tzumi.com. Recall information was also posted on the company’s FitRx recall pages, giving shoppers and associates a direct place to verify whether a set matched the recall before anyone tried to use it again.

The new action also brought back attention to an earlier FitRx recall in March 2025 involving the SmartBell XL Quick-Select 10-90 lbs. adjustable dumbbells, model 9034, which were sold exclusively on Walmart.com from September 2023 through June 2024. That recall covered about 12,400 units and followed more than 60 reports and at least seven injuries. It later led to a class action lawsuit that alleged the dumbbells were defectively designed and that the repair remedy was insufficient, making the latest recall another costly hit for a product line that had already raised safety concerns.
