Walmart reopens Hamilton Township supercenter with Store of the Future upgrades

Walmart reopened its remodeled Hamilton Township supercenter at 9 a.m. July 17, bringing Store of the Future upgrades onto the sales floor. The changes alter how workers stock, pick, direct customers and move through the building.

At the Hamilton Township store, the remodel included expanded aisles and updated pharmacy and vision departments. The expanded aisles and updated pharmacy and vision departments change the daily job for hourly associates and department managers, who have to relearn product placement, adjust backroom routes and answer more “where did this move?” questions as customers retrace the old layout.

Walmart remodels can include upgraded layouts, technology and services, enhanced lighting, refreshed pharmacy areas, expanded aisles in some locations, improved grocery pickup and delivery, and updated vision centers. Redesigns have also included wider aisles, lower shelves for better sight lines, stronger signage and department moves meant to support pickup workflows. For store teams, remodels mean fewer choke points at busy ends of aisles and more dependence on the new layout working exactly as planned.

On April 16, Walmart announced an investment in store remodels to drive speed, convenience and growth. Walmart plans to remodel more than 650 U.S. stores and open about 20 new locations through 2026 and early 2027. In New Jersey, Walmart announced plans to remodel 12 stores as part of a $173 million investment in the state to improve the in-store and online shopping experience.

Store remodel teams create career paths for hundreds of associates, and dedicated overnight stocking and remodel team associate roles appear in job postings. Renovations bring temporary product moves, extra cleaning and more complicated replenishment. Customers near stores under renovation can place online orders for pickup at nearby locations during the work.
