DCI Houston moves to Legacy Stadium after University of Houston turf repairs

DCI Houston still lands on July 17, but the move to Legacy Stadium in Katy shifts the whole operation in a way drum corps people will notice immediately. After turf repairs at the University of Houston pushed the show off campus, Drum Corps International moved the Texas stop to Katy ISD’s 12,000-seat Legacy Stadium, a place it has used successfully before in 2018 and 2019. For marching percussion crews, that familiarity matters, because the difference between a smooth night and a frantic one often comes down to a venue that already has a tested path for truck bays, pit carts, front ensemble gear, props and electronics.

The show, presented by Fruhauf Uniforms, remains part of the DCI Texas Series presented by USBands, so Houston still sits in a heavyweight part of the summer calendar. Eric Hjellming, DCI’s director of events, said the organization was grateful to Katy ISD for stepping up quickly, and the move buys time for corps staff who have to map loading, unloading and field access around a stadium they know. Legacy Stadium is at 1830 Katyland Drive in Katy, giving fans a clear travel target after the University of Houston venue change.

DCI also stabilized ticketing fast. Online sales were paused while the new setup was finalized, and full refunds for individual ticket sales, including premium add-ons, parking and processing fees, were set to be processed within seven to 10 business days. Priority pre-sale access opened June 19 for Friends of DCI members and people who had already bought University of Houston tickets, with public on-sale set for June 22. Individual tickets are listed at $53 to $78, with prices rising on the day of the event. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. CT and the box office opens at 5:30 p.m. CT, which gives late-arriving fans a narrow but workable window before the first corps steps off.

The field itself still looks loaded. Spartans, Genesis, Crossmen, The Academy, The Cavaliers, Blue Stars, Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats and Boston Crusaders are all on the Houston card, the kind of lineup that turns a venue change into a logistics test instead of a headline crisis. DCI’s 2026 tour will stretch across more than 75 events in more than 30 states, with World Championships set for Aug. 3-8, so keeping Houston locked into the Texas circuit matters. Legacy Stadium is not a glamorous detour, but for the crews hauling battery, pit and electronics into one of the summer’s key stops, it is the kind of stable home base that keeps the whole night on rails.
