Drummer Brooke Hall Steps Into Spotlight With Debut Single "Waiting"

Brooke Hall has spent years as the engine behind other people's music, holding down the kit in band after band throughout a life rooted in Austin, Indiana. The debut single "Waiting," now streaming, marks something different: Hall out front, guitar in hand, carrying a song that's been sitting finished since 2012.

The origin traces back to a single night in Louisville. In 2012, Hall walked into DiOrio's Pizza and Pub for their first open mic, hosted by Alanna Fugate. For the first time, Hall stepped away from the drums, picked up a guitar, and performed an original as a singer-songwriter. What began as a moment of courage became the start of a new musical path, and "Waiting" was born from that same period.

The song sat with Hall for over a decade before it received the full production treatment. Hall brought it to Shannon McArthur to realize it properly. "I worked with my buddy Shannon McArthur, who helped produce my song," Hall said. "We worked closely together to develop the sound we were going for and brought the song to life."

The result is intimate and deliberate. Hall describes "Waiting" as a track built on warm acoustic textures, rooted in the specific emotional tension of being stuck in place while daily life keeps grinding forward. "It's a song of raw emotion and speaks about real moments in life," Hall said. "It's a heartfelt singer-songwriter track that talks about quiet emotional tension when you're waiting for someone to leave, but in the middle of still navigating the day-to-day and stuck there. The song captures the vulnerability of standing still in life while everything around you keeps moving."

For a drummer, the instinct is always to serve the song from behind it. Hall has flipped that entirely here: the songwriting that was always a constant is now the thing the audience hears first. Hall is already working on the next single, so "Waiting" is less a one-off step and more the opening move in a longer run at the front of the stage.
