Phil Collins earns solo Rock Hall induction as Iron Maiden finally joins class of 2026
Phil Collins gets his own Rock Hall nod after Genesis, while Iron Maiden finally breaks through in a class that gives drummer fans two huge wins.

Phil Collins gave drummer fans the biggest lift in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2026. The Hall finally moved Collins in as a solo performer, while Iron Maiden landed its first induction after years of debate and campaigning, turning a standard Hall announcement into a real moment for anyone who tracks rhythm sections, frontmen, and how often drummers get their due.
The class was revealed live on American Idol by Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie on April 13. The induction ceremony is set for Saturday, November 14, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, then it will debut in December on ABC and Disney+. The Rock Hall said the performers were chosen from artists who released their first commercial recording at least 25 years ago.
Collins is already in the Hall as a member of Genesis, but this honor recognizes the solo career that made him one of rock’s rare drummer-turned-frontman figures. He joined Genesis in 1970, took over lead vocals in 1975 after Peter Gabriel’s departure, and helped push the band toward a more radio-ready sound. The Rock Hall says Collins has sold more than 150 million records worldwide across his solo work and his Genesis catalog, and his résumé includes eight Grammys, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Collins wrote on Instagram that he was “pleased and honored” and that the induction “wraps up what has been a wonderful life in music.”
Iron Maiden’s long wait ended with a nod that feels overdue to a lot of metal fans. The band has always treated its relationship with fans as more important than awards, and manager Rod Smallwood said the honor was “nice to receive.” The timing also lines up with Iron Maiden’s 50th anniversary celebrations and its Run For Your Lives World Tour, which only adds to the sense that the Hall is catching up with a legacy that was already stamped into arena rock.
The larger class includes Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan, plus several early influence and musical excellence honorees. The 2026 performer slate came from 17 nominees announced February 25, with 10 first-time nominees, and the voting body includes more than 1,200 artists, historians, and music industry professionals. For drummer fans, though, the headline is simple: this is one of the clearest Rock Hall classes in years to say that the people behind the kit matter just as much as the names out front.
