Bellflower opened The Bark Spot at Caruthers Park, 10500 Flora Vista St., on Friday at 3:30 p.m., adding the city’s second off-leash dog park and a new daily option for dogs that need a real outlet. The new space is split into separate areas for small dogs and large dogs, a setup that gives owners a cleaner choice between high-energy fetch and a more controlled session for recall work or decompression.

The city says The Bark Spot is meant to be a safe and inclusive space that promotes responsible pet ownership, connection and active recreation. In practical terms, it should take some pressure off Bellflower’s first off-leash dog park and give residents another place close to home where dogs can run hard without turning every outing into a crowded scramble.

Mayor Sonny R. Santa Ines tied the opening to the city’s broader quality-of-life push, saying, “The Bark Spot reflects our commitment to enhancing quality of life in Bellflower by creating spaces where residents and their pets can connect, play and enjoy the outdoors.”

The park also fits into Bellflower’s 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, which the city describes as a roadmap for future initiatives and budget decisions. That matters beyond the ribbon cutting because the project is being treated as part of the city’s long-term parks strategy, not just a one-day celebration. The Bellflower Rotary Club, which has served the community since 1925, partnered with the city in recognition of its 100th anniversary, and the city says the club’s contribution supports The Bark Spot and provides initial funding for a future Bellflower Parks and Recreation Foundation.

Caruthers Park already has another draw: the Carpenter House Museum, open the last Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. With The Bark Spot now in the mix, the park becomes a fuller civic stop, one where a museum visit and an off-leash session can share the same address. For Bellflower’s dog owners, the difference is straightforward: more room, less waiting, and a better match between the dog at the end of the leash and the space built for it.
