Record 2026 World Agility Championships Open in Spain with 14 Nations
Spain’s World Agility Championships opened with a record field of 14 nations, and the first class already mattered for medals and all-around standings.

The 2026 World Agility Championships opened in Godella, Spain, with a record entry and a field that stretched to 14 countries, a sign that elite agility is growing faster and wider than the average championship stop. The opening ceremony began at 09:30 Spanish time at the Moura Tours Equestrian Center, and the first day quickly moved from ceremony to competition with the Individual Gamblers class, where every run counted toward both medals and the weeklong Individual All Around standings.
That first class set the tone for what followed at 13:00, when the Gamblers round got underway. In this format, handlers do not simply race a preset line. They choose their own obstacle sequence and chase points within the time allowed, which makes the opening day a test of judgment as much as speed. For the hyperenergetic dog crowd, that is the kind of pressure-cooker work that rewards clean handling, fast commitment, and dogs that can stay locked in while their people make split-second decisions.
The championship runs through May 3, 2026, at Club Hipico Mouratours, also known as the Valencia Equestrian Center, about 21 kilometers from Valencia Airport. The venue is no stranger to major dog sport stages. USDAA said it previously hosted the 2017 World Agility Championships, and the facility brings the infrastructure to match a global event: multiple outdoor sand arenas, 80 permanent stables, room for at least 120 tent stables, and an indoor arena with soil-textile mixed footing.

The scale on the ground matched the scale on the entry list. Team USA alone includes 27 handlers and 30 dogs, a reminder that international agility is still a serious personal investment for competitors who self-fund the trip. Local reports put the crowd near 300 participants from around the world, with free admission opening the event to spectators who want to watch the sport without a ticket barrier.
The first day also showed how much more than one game this championship really is. IFCS lists gamblers or joker alongside standard agility, jumping, snooker, pairs and team relay, time-gamble, and power-and-speed, which is why a world title here rewards versatility, not just raw foot speed. With live stream coverage, the running order, course diagram, rules of play, and judge’s briefing notes posted as the week develops, the sport’s biggest stage is now visible in real time, and the record field in Spain suggests the international agility map is still expanding.
