Accurascale Limited acquired Heljan's UK operations on March 26, 2026, and wasted little time reshaping how British modellers will buy the brand's products. The Irish manufacturer announced a full shift to direct-to-consumer sales through a new Heljan UK website, paired with new retail price floors that put OO gauge locomotives at £99.95, TT powered models from approximately £124.94, and O gauge from around £299.95.

The pricing move is the sharpest signal of intent. Accurascale framed the new targets explicitly as an attempt to lower entry points and bring new buyers into the hobby. The direct channel strips traditional retail margin from the equation, which is precisely what makes those numbers viable.

Pipeline products move with the acquisition. Accurascale confirmed that several in-development Heljan items, including the Class 42 Warship, Class 44, and Class 86 in OO, along with a Class 55 for both TT and O gauge, are being migrated to Heljan/Accurascale pre-order channels. Anyone holding an existing pre-order placed through old retail channels was directed to re-confirm or place a fresh order through the new Heljan UK site.

That instruction landed hard on UK dealers. Gaugemaster and other retailers posted immediate guidance warning customers that existing backorders through traditional channels may be cancelled and that dealer stock is limited. It is the clearest point of friction in any manufacturer-goes-direct pivot: the supply chain restructures overnight, and retailers are left managing customer expectations on orders that may no longer have a clear fulfilment path.

Not everything moves to direct. Accurascale committed to keeping Heljan's continental Danish range available through retail networks across mainland Europe, preserving the established distribution structure for non-UK markets. Support for older Heljan models will continue while stocks last, though the depth of that commitment will be tested as inventory runs down.

The broader picture is hard to ignore. Accurascale absorbing Heljan is the latest in a run of consolidation moves across UK and European model railway manufacturing, with each deal compressing the distance between factory and customer. Tighter supply chains, loyalty pricing, and manufacturer-controlled pre-order channels are becoming standard toolkit items, and Accurascale is now running that playbook across two brands simultaneously. Whether the OO price floor at £99.95 holds through full production runs, or represents launch promotional pricing, will become clear as the first post-acquisition releases arrive.
