Dapol Expands IOA and JNA Wagon Range With New Running Numbers
Dapol's new OO gauge IOA "Mussel" and JNA "Falcon" wagons arrive in Q3 2026 at £37.95 each, with fresh running numbers to extend your Network Rail engineers rake.

Dapol has announced additional OO gauge IOA and JNA wagons carrying new running numbers, with decorated samples still pending and shop availability anticipated in Q3 2026 at £37.95 each.
The IOA, known by its designation "Mussel," is a Romanian-built high-sided open wagon that entered prototype service in 2009 hauling ballast and spoil under Network Rail's engineers yellow livery. Rated to a maximum load of 102 tonnes, the real wagons typically run in block formations of ten or more, which makes number variety on a layout genuinely useful rather than cosmetic. Having two or three wagons with identical running numbers in the same rake is the kind of detail that pulls you out of the scene, and the fresh numbers Dapol is issuing address exactly that problem.
The JNA "Falcon" has an equally specific prototype pedigree. Astro Vagone, part of the Trinity group, built a fleet of 555 of these bogie ballast wagons in Romania, with the first examples entering service in 2004. A distinguishing feature of the design is a large reinforced door in the centre bay, fitted to ease inspection, discharge, and cleaning. On the real railway the Falcons run in rakes of five, so a five-wagon set built from multiple Dapol number batches models that formation accurately without repeating a single identity.
Both types wear Network Rail's distinctive Engineers yellow, which remains the livery context for this release. Dapol's product page lists headings for proposed IOA and JNA liveries, but specific variants have not yet been detailed publicly, so the full colour options for this batch remain to be confirmed once decorated samples clear approval.
Dapol's own project update states the models are currently "awaiting decorated samples" and that the firm anticipates delivery to shops in Q3 2026. Pre-orders can be placed now through your preferred Dapol stockist. At £37.95 per wagon, building out a full IOA block of ten sits at just under £380, while a five-wagon Falcon rake comes in at £189.75, both before any stockist discounts.
The exact new running numbers have not been published yet, which is worth tracking before committing to a pre-order if you want to cross-check against wagons you already own.
