NBA 2K26 MyNBA Start Today breaks play-in, freezes offline franchises
Start Today is tripping over the 2026 playoff bracket, with users stuck at the play-in, wrong conference matchups, outdated contracts and offline franchise freezes.

NBA 2K26’s MyNBA Start Today is failing at the exact moment players want it most, and the breakage goes straight to the core of the mode: current-season realism. Users are reporting that they cannot advance past the play-in, are seeing wrong conference matchups, including Detroit in the wrong bracket slot, and are running into outdated contracts and freezes that make offline franchise saves hard to trust.
That is a brutal miss for a feature built around living in the league’s real calendar. NBA 2K has pushed MyNBA as a smarter, more strategic front-office experience, with 30 unique storylines, dynamic banners, improved and adjustable simulations, and online NBA Playoffs that can run privately with up to 15 friends or be opened to the public. The feature page also says simulations run 8 percent faster on average and up to 26 percent faster than NBA 2K25. Those are the exact promises fans buy into when they want a franchise that tracks the real season, and they are the exact promises being tested now.
The timing makes the problem even louder. The NBA’s 2026 play-in tournament ran April 14-17, 2026, and the first round of the playoffs starts April 18. That means Start Today is breaking while the league is still in the play-in window, not after the fact, and players trying to spin up an offline postseason run are hitting the wall right as the bracket is being finalized. The Detroit Pistons, who are the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed in the official 2026 bracket, are also a glaring example of why the wrong-conference reports are drawing so much attention.
The frustration has spread because the bug is not just cosmetic. If Start Today cannot move past the play-in, cannot keep the bracket aligned with the real postseason, and cannot preserve current contracts, then the mode stops behaving like a living season and starts behaving like a broken save file. That hits the exact audience that leans on MyNBA instead of online play: the players who want to run their own playoffs, manage their own transactions, and play out the bracket without leaving franchise mode.
2K’s v6.0 patch notes, listed for March 30, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and April 3, 2026 on PC, do not mention a MyNBA Start Today postseason fix. With the postseason already underway and the play-in window still active, that silence is what stands out most. MyNBA was sold as the mode for a more realistic league simulation; right now, for too many players, it is the mode that cannot keep up with the bracket it was built to mirror.
