Scoiattolo expands capacity and pushes private-label at Marca
Scoiattolo announced a major production expansion and promoted private-label services at Marca, strengthening supply for retailers and exporters across roughly 40 countries.

Scoiattolo, the long-standing ravioli and fresh-pasta maker based near Varese, used its appearance at Marca by BolognaFiere on January 14–15 to showcase a sweeping growth plan and sharpen its private-label offer. The move aims to meet rising demand from large retailers and international chains that want tailored fresh-pasta lines without building their own factories.
At the center of the news is a major production expansion at a facility adjacent to Scoiattolo’s current site. The company plans four new production lines that will lift theoretical capacity from about 100,000 kg per day to a potential 250,000 kg per day at full run. Overall production footprint will grow to more than 22,000 square meters, a jump that signals serious scale-up for fresh pasta intended for supermarket chillers and foodservice customers alike.
Scoiattolo already sells in roughly 40 countries and reports private-label accounts for 28 percent of its Italian business and 72 percent of its export sales. That mix explains why Marca was an obvious stage: the trade fair draws distributors and buying groups that control shelf space and national chains that need stable, compliant suppliers. For those buyers, Scoiattolo’s expanded capacity and nearshore location promise shorter lead times and more reliable fills during promotional cycles.
The company’s product depth is another selling point. Its portfolio includes more than 250 recipes across about 30 formats, meaning retailers can commission regional fillings, branded textures, different portion sizes, or bespoke packaging with relative ease. Scoiattolo emphasizes tailored recipes, format flexibility and direct R&D support to speed product development from concept to chilled-case ready. For chains translating local tastes into private-label SKUs, that capability reduces time to shelf and the engineering headache of scaling artisanal recipes.
For local producers and pasta fans, the expansion keeps a storied regional player on the growth path while reinforcing Italy’s role in supplying fresh-format pasta to international markets. For retailers, the lesson is practical: larger, closer-sourced private-label partners can cut logistic complexity and offer more SKUs when promotional demand spikes.
Expect Scoiattolo to press its private-label agenda in the coming months as the new lines are installed and ramped. Buyers chasing consistent fresh-pasta fills, new seasonal SKUs, or cost-effective alternatives to branded lines will want to monitor how quickly the company moves from capacity potential to full production runs.
