EA’s Sims 4 cheats FAQ explains PC, Build Mode, and Live Mode commands

EA splits The Sims 4 cheats into PC Cheats, Build Mode Console Cheats, and Live Mode Console Cheats, which makes it easier to find the right fix when a legacy household is running on fumes, a build is missing one key object, or a Sim has frozen in the middle of the kitchen. That setup lets you grab the right tool instead of digging through stale fan lists.

Start with the console, because that is the whole doorway

On PC and Mac, press Ctrl + Shift + C to open the cheat console, type the command, and press Enter. That is the part people forget when a code “doesn’t work,” and it is usually the real problem. If the dialogue box never appears, nothing else matters.

EA’s support hub lists cheats alongside general FAQ pages and topic-specific help, including career articles with cheats sections, rather than in a hidden corner for power users.

The money cheats worth memorizing first

If you only keep a couple of commands in your head, make them the ones that instantly solve budget problems. EA’s FAQ calls out rosebud and kaching, which each give you 1,000 simoleons, and motherlode, which gives you 50,000 simoleons.

Those are the cheats that save the most time in real play. Rosebud and kaching are handy when you just need a quick cushion for bills, a bathroom upgrade, or one more piece of furniture. Motherlode is the blunt instrument you reach for when you are furnishing a lot from scratch, rebuilding after a move, or trying to keep a story moving instead of grinding for cash.

Build Mode cheats are about speed, not spectacle

Build Mode Console Cheats are separate because building and live play are different jobs. If you are laying out a house, moving walls, or trying to keep a renovation from turning into an evening-long slog, you want the building tools front and center, not buried behind relationship or household commands.

That distinction fits The Sims 4 itself. The official FAQ says, “The Sims 4 is the only game where new Sims with unique personalities open up deep, rich, and sometimes weird possibilities in the stories you create.” The home page presents the game as built around customizing Sims, homes, and stories.

The common mistake here is simple: people open the wrong mode, or they assume a Live Mode command will fix a build problem. If the problem is placement, layout, or making a lot behave the way you want, stay in the Build Mode lane.

Live Mode cheats are the ones for household control

Live Mode Console Cheats are the commands you reach for when you are steering a household instead of a floor plan. That is where the practical, story-facing stuff lives: keeping a family afloat, adjusting how a household develops, or pushing a narrative forward without waiting through hours of in-game time.

This is also where cheats stop feeling like “cheating” and start feeling like save management. The Sims Maker Program announcement says the franchise has been shaped by the community from the beginning, including custom content creators whose work helps players make every Sim and every build feel more personal.

For relationship-heavy saves, this is the section that matters most, even if you are not memorizing a giant list of romance commands. If your whole game is built around households, legacies, and story arcs, Live Mode is where those household commands sit.

When a Sim gets stuck, reset first before you panic

EA published Little-Known Tips for The Sims 4 on Console on April 9, 2018, with seven tips for console players, and later pushed Update 01/31/2023 with version numbers PC 1.95.207.1030, Mac 1.95.207.1230, and Console 1.69. That 2023 update focused on console interface improvements for controller interaction.
