Clayton Home Building Group pulled the wraps off the Buttercup at the 2026 Biloxi Manufactured Home Show, introducing the 408-square-foot manufactured home as the flagship of its newly announced TRU Mini collection. The model sits on a 12-by-36-foot footprint and fits a one-bedroom, one-bath layout into that space, with eight-foot flat ceilings pushing the interior feel beyond what the square footage alone suggests.

The Buttercup is one of several smaller models in the TRU Mini series, which Clayton is positioning as a lower-price entry point within its existing TRU product line. Clayton claims the Buttercup offers one of the lowest home prices on the market today, though the company has not published a specific MSRP. The pitch is straightforward: same finish level as a standard TRU home, smaller box, smaller price tag.

On the spec sheet, the Buttercup delivers what you'd expect from a TRU build. The kitchen comes with Frigidaire appliances and DuraCraft cabinets with modern rolled-edge countertops. Those same countertops and upgraded window casings carry through the rest of the interior, which Clayton describes as matching the finish standards of its full-sized TRU lineup.

"TRU revolutionized the housing industry in 2012 with attainable pricing that has helped more than 100,000 customers achieve homeownership," said Mike Duncan, Clayton Manufacturing senior vice president of operations. "Today, the need for attainable housing is greater than ever, and the TRU Mini home collection with its lower price expands opportunities for customers who believe homeownership is financially out of reach."

The TRU Mini launch follows Clayton's September 2025 debut of the TRU ORIGIN collection, a standardized product line built to uniform construction specs across all TRU manufacturing facilities. ORIGIN homes, whose models are named after tree varieties, are available through more than 800 retail partners nationwide. The TRU Mini series builds on that same infrastructure and nearly 15-year legacy of attainable pricing that Clayton traces back to TRU's 2012 launch.

Clayton, founded in Maryville, Tenn., in 1956, built more than 59,000 homes nationwide in 2025 across a portfolio that spans site-built, modern manufactured, tiny, CrossMod, and modular housing. The Buttercup represents the company's most compact factory-built offering to date under the TRU brand, and for buyers priced out of even the lower end of the manufactured housing market, it may be worth a serious look when it reaches retail partners.
